Twilio
Connect Twilio to WasteNot to sync SMS messages your customers receive from your Twilio numbers. Use this data to build audiences based on recent SMS outreach and coordinate ad targeting with your owned-channel communication.
Prerequisites
Before connecting Twilio, you will need:
- A Twilio account
- Your Twilio Account SID
- A Twilio API Key SID
- The matching API Key Secret
WasteNot uses a Twilio API key instead of your account auth token. Twilio recommends API keys for production apps, and they can be rotated without changing your primary account credentials.
Connecting Twilio
Step 1: Create a Twilio API key
- Log in to your Twilio Console
- Open Account → API keys & tokens
- Create a new API key
- Give the key a clear name, such as "WasteNot Integration"
- Copy the API Key SID and API Key Secret
Twilio only shows the API Key Secret when the key is created. Copy it before leaving the page.
Step 2: Connect Twilio in WasteNot
- Add a new Twilio data source in WasteNot
- Enter a Name
- Enter your Account SID
- Enter your API Key SID
- Enter your API Key Secret
- Click Connect
WasteNot will begin syncing Twilio message activity automatically.
What gets synced
WasteNot syncs outbound Twilio SMS messages where a customer received a message from one of your Twilio numbers. Each event is keyed by the recipient's phone number, so you can use recent SMS outreach in audience rules and suppression logic.
Inbound customer replies are not imported by this data source today.
Frequently asked questions
Where do I find my Account SID?
You can find your Account SID in the Twilio Console account settings or on the main account dashboard.
Can I use my Twilio auth token?
No. Use a Twilio API Key SID and API Key Secret. This keeps the integration separate from your main account token and makes rotation easier.
My data source shows "Failed" status
Common causes:
- The API Key SID or API Key Secret was copied incorrectly
- The API key was deleted or rotated in Twilio
- The Account SID does not match the account that owns the API key
Create a new Twilio API key if needed, then update the data source in Data Sources.
